In preparation for Article 21 on the Warning:

Hello Benson voters.

I’m Norman Cohen.  I live in Rutland.

I am a member of the Vermont Declaration of Inclusion Initiative, a group of Rutland County volunteers whose goal is to have every city and town in Vermont adopt the Declaration of Inclusion.

Together with my colleague Marsha Cassel, we have attended four Selectboard meetings to discuss this Declaration.  The Selectboard decided that it should be voted on at Benson’s Town Meeting February 28th at 10:00 a.m.  It is Article 21 on the Town Meeting Warning and reads:

Shall the Town of Benson vote to condemn racism and welcome all persons regardless of race, religion, sex. sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age or disability, or socioeconomic status, and wants everyone to feel safe and welcome in our community.

If you have questions about the Declaration of Inclusion or simply want more information about it, we will be hosting a coffee hour (with cookies) at the Benson Community Hall on February 23rd at 6 p.m. to speak with you!
