Town Clerk Reminders|

When

September 15, 2026
All Day

Where

Town Office
2760 Stage Road, Benson, Vermont, 05743

Event Type

The first payment of 2026-2027 property taxes is due. MUST be paid in person or postmarked by Tuesday, September 15th.

There is no grace period—all payments not made in person at the Town Office or postmarked by that date incur a one-time 8% penalty and immediately begin accruing interest charges at the rate of 1% for the first three months and 1½% per month thereafter. That is, if the payment due on September 15th is not made until September 16th you will owe an additional 9% interest and penalty. PLEASE NOTE: There is now a secure drop box located at the southwest corner of the Town Office building where tax payments may be left at any time. The USPS has changed the way it postmarks. The postmark is now the day of processing and not the drop-off date. If you need a same day postmark, you need to go to the USPS counter and request it.

If you handle your bill paying electronically you should be aware that the envelopes used generally do not carry a postmark. They cannot be considered on time—regardless of the date on the check—unless they arrive at the Town Office on or before the due date. You’re welcome to call the Office at 802-537-2611 or 802-456-4094 (extension 1) to make sure your payment arrived safely, or include a SASE and we’ll send you a receipt.

Extended hours on Tuesday, September 15th will be 9am-5pm.  If you’d like to pay in person but aren’t comfortable coming in to the Town Office I’d be happy to meet you at your car. There is a handicapped entrance at the rear of the building.
